Bio: What is there left to say about Protomartyr? The moody yet punchy band hailing from the Motor City has become one of the biggest names in post-punk today, cementing themselves as leaders in the genre. Comprised of Joe Casey (vocals), Greg Ahee (guitar), Alex Leonard (drums), and Scott Davidson (bass), the band has released six records in the last decade, many receiving widespread critical acclaim. The band has been cited as an influence by post-punk/post-rock bands like Citizen, Idles, The Dirty Nil, and The Devil Wears Prada, along with being listed as a current favorite of artists like Iggy Pop, Ana da Silva of The Raincoats, Greg Dulli of The Afghan Whigs, and Kelley Deal of The Breeders (the latter having played several live shows with Protomartyr). Their lyrical themes tend to draw from the environmental and economic experiences of living in Detroit, with their sound centering around pounding rhythms against cold, loud soundscapes.
